1978 Sharp C-1872 18″ Linytron Colour TV
Posted on 13th, 2013 by
A look at a classic Sharp TV: the C-1872, the same model I watched all my TV and played all my Master System, NES & SNES games on between about 1980 – 1993. The same model in white: www.radiomuseum.org
I will answer any questions you have about this TV just leave a comment. This is the one from Best Buy’s 2011 Black Friday sale. I waited 29 hours outside of Best Buy to get this thing. Got it for 0, regular price is 0.

She’s a beauty, I am after one like this, from the same era, perhaps even with rotary dials

Thanks mate, yeah I’m a bit harsh on the image quality – I shouldn’t compare it to a Trinitron with RGB Scart
Apparently Sharp named it Linytron to resemble (in name at least) Sony’s Trinitron. I drove 400 miles in one day to pick up this TV – I love it and if it ever dies I will cry!

Ha ha, she will when she’s a bit older.

Oh yes, playing Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System) on it really brings all the memories of ’91 flooding back.

But it was sad when a tv died, almost devastating. It was almost like a family pet dying.

But I love these old tellies. It reminds me of the tv my family had, but we were too poor to buy one, so we rented it from Granada.

Moon patrols music sounds like the master systems version of paperboy.

That’s fucking awesome ! Love the woodgrain
For 1978 the picture looks fantastic to me ! Those touch sensitive buttons are very “star trek” LOL they’re awesome. Thanks for sharing mate, love it !

Beautiful tv!!! I love the wood effect! Your daughter should play games on it too!!!

Lovely touch to buy back the same (make of) TV you had as a kid, Dave. I can see myself doing the same thing eventually – i’d imagine plugging in an old computer/console would be an ultimate nostalgia blast

i hope my sharp crt monitor still works when it’s this old
February 13th, 2013 at 12:28 PM
Thanks mate, Can’t wait until I can have it set up full time instead of just hauling it out once a year for a shakedown.

February 13th, 2013 at 6:34 PM
Unfortunately there isn’t really a way to add a sound system. Only thing you can do I think is to use the headphone jack to connect to a line in port on the sound system. Can’t figure a way to add external speakers.

February 13th, 2013 at 11:08 PM
Had this TV for weeks and can’t get the color right. What are your video settings? (Brightness, contrast, etc.)
February 13th, 2013 at 11:47 PM

February 14th, 2013 at 12:01 AM

February 14th, 2013 at 12:58 AM
مشكوور
February 14th, 2013 at 1:35 AM
Does anyone think the children who make these videos even watch them? They all look like a seven year olds birthday party (and usually make about as much sense).
February 14th, 2013 at 1:54 AM
Burrrrp. Best review ever! Thank you.
February 14th, 2013 at 2:53 AM
That kinda sucks. Would have liked to hook up my external usb drive to play all my avi movies. Oh well.
February 14th, 2013 at 3:34 AM
Yeah, it was black Friday…
February 14th, 2013 at 4:14 AM
i completely agree but i believe whatever u buy on black friday is at your own risk. anything at bestbuy can be a piece of shit its just if u get a Lemon or not. Thats all i meant. sorry if people misunderstood
February 14th, 2013 at 4:21 AM
A piece of shit t.v.? Do u also believe what the Geek Squad tells u? I was just at best buy today, and they didn’t even know wtf I was talkin about when I them about the max resolution the pc input could handle. Half of those employees are clueless about the shit they sell and will read to you, what you just read on the box.
